Bobby and I flew back late last night from our fun-filled weekend in Arizona last night and we were very sad to say goodbye to Tim Ward. He's one of the nicest, most fun, and laid back dudes I've ever met. And he was more than nice enough to put up with Bob and I's behavior for hours on end and drive us all over town to skate and hang out. We miss you already Tim, thanks so much! -Worful
Everyone else was making a montage that was reminiscent of warm weather, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon. I'm trying to keep up with the latest trends, for instance, how many of you have ordered your D3 2001's? Anyway, here's a bunch of the clips I've had sitting on my computer for quite a while.
Bobby and I are off to meet up with a Randy and his wife for a double honeymoon of sorts in Arizona. If that's too liberal sounding for you don't worry, we'll be doing some skating as well probably. -Worful
The High Five "The High Road" trip is officially overs, and we've had a little time to go back through footage of all the nonsense (and a few perfectly sensible things) that happened on the long 3 week escape from the frozen solid ice-hell of the midwest.
The first video is a Preston Harper-edited montage of our Flip camera footage of the trip courtesy of his blog Bloggy Treats. Like Preston's many other montages, it is jam-packed with bro-filmed hijinks, mediocre to gnarly skating, silly pop music, and is of utmost entertainment value. And, although I know this is not "Triple Feature Friday" it should also be mentioned that The High Five posted a re-edit of Preston's part in the new but sadly unduplicated Brimley video which should at this point be somewhat famous for its intro sequence that was posted online recently.
HOLY FUCKIN' INTERNET! Do people even have time to take a whiz these days?
Our second feature is from Scott "Horsey" Walker's blog bagel's and beers and was also filmed and edited by Mr. Walker. It is pretty much just Steve Fauser and I trying to skate off hangovers of the most demotivating variety using a box that some of our friends out there might recognize as a near replica of Troy Mccay's old box. It features music by hippo-assed rap diva Nicki Minaj, which by playing in the car over the course of the trip went from being enjoyed ironically to near fanatical obsession.
I'm afraid I don't have the time tonight to critically break down the subtleties of these two works of video art or to sing the praises of Nicki Minaj's very unsubtle ass but I hope you can appreciate them on their own merits all the same without having me hold your hand and interpret them as I usually do. You can check out some photos from this trip at The High Five digital dump.
All of the "real" skate footage (boring, contrived, painfully attained) and photos are under wraps for use in a magazine article and video project. How charming and old-fashioned!
We hope everyone's safe and sound during this RIDICULOUS and especially NON-SKATEABLE weather we're currently having. To pass the time you could try making a snowmuska. It's like a regular snowman, but a little cooler.
So it was actually kind of nice over the weekend. Not that I actually skated. I mostly watched Drew and Alex and everyone else rip at the Kingshighway spot. A lot of people were there, including Brinkles, yes! The bowl section has turned out sooooo nice. Good work to everyone who made that happen. After that Bobby and I snuck away to stuff our faces, and then met up with Jack, Mitts, and Herbert so we could skate a spot Jack found. Also so Bobby could get whooped in two games of S.K.A.T.E. with Herbert. After that Bob decided it was time to split, so we did. Anyway, thanks weather, it was fun while it lasted. Also please go to the KHVT site if you want to find out about how to help out with any of their future projects. -Worful
Well the winter season is about to drop another big white load on all of us in the metropolitan area. You better stock up on groceries and make plans for a sensual evening illuminated by screen light (power pending). Here are a few gems that might be able to hold you over. We've got a fresh promo from Tyler Lamb titled "Gnar Jar" which looks to showcase some of the St. Louis county spots and skaters, which is followed by Wissman's coverage from the Jake's Junt premiere, and then, grab some popcorn and get comfortable for THE RAD ONE VIDEO. With a run time just short of 9 minutes, this one is almost a feature length skate film.
Hope everyone is staying warm out there. Drive safe!
Why not round out the week with one final video-related post? I give you the mind blowing trailer for the new Brimley Skateboards video Can't Hardly Skate. Wow.
In yet MORE local video news our friends at We Are the City are back again with an awesome teaser for their newest montage that's going to be on their blog next week. Nice! I'm digging the song and the feel of this for sure. -Worful
I got my hands on yet ANOTHER local gem the night of Jake's video premiere. It's called Footaje and it's from the chubby mind of Alex Kehoe. And man is it good stuff. Chris Jackson has first part and it's sick and Kendal has last part which is ALSO sick! Plus all the skating in between is, you guessed it, SICK as well. So go bug Alex for one already. -Worful
Infinity just got copies of Boyish, so go grab one! Speaking of, here's a sequence Grizz shot of Drew doing a monstrous wallride to broken tail (on an uphill landing!). As seen in the aforementioned and soon to be (or already is?) classic video. Yeah Drewser! What a beast.
I saw Jackson Casey's new video Boyish the other day, and let me tell you this: Ryan Sublette is amazing. The whole video is in fact. See it as soon as you can please. Thank you. -Worful
"Greetings from LA! Friday I went on an epic journey to find the coveted Stoner Park. As anticipated, it was totally awesome and very worth the short drive from Santa Monica. I shredded its plaza-style ledges and banks to the best of my ability for roughly 10 minutes, and then this happened."
Oy vey, sorry Joel. That sucks, but at least it's sunny there I guess. Hurry back! -Worful
I met up with Bobby and Guy the other night to go to the HIGHLY ANTICIPATED premiere of Jake Pratte's new video Jake's Junt. There was a great turn out at the Plan Nine park, and this blog's official stance is that the video is "totally awesome" and that the whole night was "super fun." However the Steak 'n Shake afterwards "didn't sit well." Never the less, thanks Jake! You did a great job! Now get started on the next one please. -Worful
Happy birthday Chubby! I mean Alex. Alex is 18 years old today if you can believe it. Crazy, they grow up so fast! We hope it's a good one buddy. -Worful
Jake "Pratteman" Pratte's new video Jake's Junt is premiering TONIGHT at the Plan Nine skatepark at the Mills Mall! All your favorite skaters will be in the video (except for the Muska), junting it up for your entertainment. There's a $10 entrance fee which includes a copy of the video as well as a session at the park so you can practice your switch stance double junt flips and as well as your fakie inward junts. See you there!
I got new shoes! That's it. That's all I had to say. Also worth noting is that I got a pair of Beloe shoes, the Austin Stephens pro model to be exact. Now I know what you're thinking, "Say whaaaaat?" Basically I was looking for shoes online* and Bobby sent me a link to some nice shoes he'd seen, and they turned out to be none other than the now discontinued pro model of one of Bob and I's favorite skaters. So yeah, I am very excited to be a part of the now irrelevant shoe company that will most likely do nothing special for my skate career. And if you're wondering if I did this just for the money, well, the answer is yes. They were super cheap. -Worful
*Special NO THANKS to Gabe who apparently shares my tiny baby size feet and is on a campaign to systematically buy every pair of shoes at Infinity that I want in order to destroy my fizzling skate career. WHATEVER.
